Larry B. Anderson - Chief Executive Officer

Larry B. Anderson is the CEO of Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California. Tri-City is a large tertiary care, Joint Commission accredited district hospital in North San Diego County. As CEO, Anderson is responsible for a budget that generates net revenues of approximately $400 million annually and a facility that employs nearly 2,300 employees and has a staff of more than 500 physicians who practice over 60 specialties and sub-specialties.

Since becoming CEO in January 2009, Anderson’s major achievements have included arranging re-financing of Tri-City’s high interest rate auction rate securities, reducing interest rate costs from 17.5% to approximately an aggregate 5%, obtaining seismic clearance of the entire campus until 2030, and obtaining national certifications as a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center and Chest Pain Center (the only one of its kind in San Diego county), and certification from the American Stroke Association and American Heart Association as a Gold-Plus Primary Stroke Center for the past two years (the only San Diego County healthcare facility to achieve this distinction). Recently, TCMC was awarded a 3 year re-accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, with Commendation.

Anderson has successfully guided Tri-City through its Tri-Annual accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, where Tri-City achieved “gold” status. Upon Anderson’s arrival at Tri-City in January 2009, Tri-City lost in excess of over $1.5 Million, in January alone.  After declaring losses in Fiscal Years 2009 and 2010, Tri-City, under Anderson’s leadership, turned to profitability in July 2010 and has recorded profit from operations every month in that fiscal year.  Tri-City ended FY 2011 $15.2 Million in the “black”, as well as generating $32.5 Million in free cash flow.

Anderson is a visionary leader and is working with Tri-City’s publicly elected Board of Directors to create a Master Facility Plan that will include the development of a new hospital facility, on its current campus, without requiring a tax increase to District residents.

Anderson has a long and successful history leading large organizations including medical institutions. He is an expert in healthcare, employment, and business law, including collective bargaining.  He was formerly the President and Founder of Integrated Healthcare Holdings, Inc (“IHHI”), a Santa Ana, California based Company which owns and operates four (4) hospitals in Orange County, California.  Those four hospitals comprise over 12% of all the acute care beds in Orange County.  His leadership and management skill allowed IHHI to turn from losses of over $3 Million per month in 2005 to Net Income profitability by the end of 2007.

Prior to creating IHHI, Anderson was Executive Vice-President and General Counsel of Alta Healthcare System in Los Angeles, where he designed and implemented a financial recovery plan for the seven-hospital chain.

Anderson spent the majority of his professional life serving with the United States Postal Service where he was in-house counsel and a Senior Career Executive. He was in charge of workers compensation, occupational medicine, employee assistance, and safety and health functions for all Postal Service employees and facilities across the nation. Part of his responsibilities entailed supervising over 100 full and part-time physicians. He also contracted with hospitals and medical clinics nationwide.

Anderson has served on numerous community and business associations.  In 2006 he was appointed as a member of the California Integrated Systems Council of the California Hospital Association. Currently, he serves on the boards of the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, the Moonlight Cultural Foundation of Vista, CA and the March of Dimes of San Diego and Imperial Counties. Recently, he accepted appointment to the Statewide Board of the March of Dimes. Additionally, he is on the Executive Board of the District Hospital Leadership Forum, an entity that focuses on hospital reimbursement for uninsured and indigent patients served by California’s District Hospitals.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach. He is a graduate of Loyola University Law School in Los Angeles.  Anderson became a California licensed attorney in 1975, and is admitted to practice before all State courts in California as well as before numerous United States District Courts and Courts of Appeal. However, currently, his duties at Tri-City Medical Center occupy his attention full-time.

Anderson and his wife Shirley are both California natives.  They have recently relocated from Coto De Caza, California to Carlsbad. The couple has three children.
