The average home price was $12,225, the average income was $4,600 per year, movies were a dollar and gas was only 24¢ per gallon! It was also a time of growth for an emerging North County community. It was at that pivotal point that a small group of North County residents, led by Chamber of Commerce executives from Oceanside, Vista, and Carlsbad, recognized the need to establish a community hospital.

Their collective efforts resulted in the formation of the Tri-City Hospital District in 1957 and the building of Tri-City Medical Center, which opened its doors in 1961.
