ADHD - Group for Parents

The parent education group is a 2-session class and provides an overview of ADHD. The first session focuses on an explanation of ADHD (etiology, symptomatology, and related disorders) and its treatment. The second session provides information pertaining to child management techniques.

Asperger's Disorder - Group for Parents

The Asperger's education group is a 2-session group designed to help parents whose children have been newly diagnosed. The first session will provide an overview of Asperger's Disorder (symptomatology, co-morbid disorders, and treatment) and management principles and techniques. School behaviors and interventions (requisite services and how to obtain these) will be the focus of the second session.

Parent Advocacy Training

Special educational training is provided for parents whose child has been diagnosed at the Child Study Center. Training sessions are designed to assist parents with first steps in working with school personnel in advocating for their child. The training is interactive and parents are encouraged to share in problem-solving activities. Information presented includes understanding basic rights that parents need to know about advocating on behalf of their children.

Parent Training Group - ADHD

This is a 5-session group designed to assist parents in acquiring behavior management techniques to address noncompliance and other behavioral problems exhibited by children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Understanding the causes of misbehavior, learning to pay attention to children's appropriate behavior, increasing compliance, using a token economy, employing time out, managing behavior in public, and improving school behavior are among the topics discussed.
